Sam Sloan personally met Malcolm X
In 1964, Malcolm X made a speech on the steps of Sproul Hall at the University of California at Berkeley.
I was a student at the University of California at Berkeley and I went to see the speech.
After he had finished speaking, I went up to him to ask him some questions. A small group of people were there. Most of them were journalists who were asking him questions about his famous "The Chickens have Come to roost" speech about the Kennedy Assassination, which had happened just before.
Having seen him in person, I can say that he was much different than he is now depicted on TV and in movies. He was much fairer in real life. Everything he said was reasonable. I could not find anything to disagree with.
For some reason, this speech has been virtually forgotten. Nobody seems to realize that Malcolm X was ever even in California. However, that speech has been published in a book of his speeches.
