Sam Sloan's Big Combined Family Trees

Christopher SCHULTZ was born about 1815 in Of Wurttemberg, Germany. He married Barbara WELCH.

Other marriages:
, Mary

From Shirley Foreman Lee Bartley records, "Germans To America" Vol. 9, p. 268,
and 1870 US Census (PA). On some of these records his name was Christian.
Also, Schultz sometimes has variations in spelling. A descendant, Dennis R.
Rogers believes the correct spelling in Schulz. According to the book,
"Germans to America", he, his wife, and three children, Jacob, Andrew, and
Margaret sailed from Germany on board the sailing ship Switzerland. They were
from Wurttemberg, Germany.(Wurttemberg is somtimes spelled differently in
English interpretations). The many volume work "Germans to America" indicates
the place of departure was Havre. Obviously, this is Le Havre, France which
was an important port for the emigration of many Europeans to America. They
arrived in New York City, June 7, 1855. The account lists the following:
Christian Schulz, 40 (perhaps an approximation) years old, he was a farmer;
Barbara, 30 (perhaps also an approximation) years old; Jacob 9, Andrew 5, and
Margaret 10 months. The family history has it they came from Belgium, Germany,
but there is no such place. However, in Wurttemberg there is a Balgheim that
is due east of Stuttgart on the Bavarian border. However, in an obituary of
their son, Andrew Schultz it indicates he was born at Velgium, Germany. In
the US they first lived in Philadelphia and later P.O. Warfordsburg, Bethel
Township, Fulton Co., Pennsylvania (certainly by 1870). Two more sons were
born in the U.S.--George and Leonard, found on the 1870 Census. Also on the
1870 Census the father's name is changed to Christopher, age 56; Barbara is
48, Margaret 16, George 12, and Leonard 9. On the 1880 Census Christopher is
63 with birth place listed as Wurttemberg as well as both of his parents.
Mary, a second wife, was listed as age 55 from Hessen-Darmstadt although her
parents were from Wurttemberg.
If we calculate from his stated age of on the 1970 Census then his birth was
approx. 1814. The 1880 Census gives his age as 63 from which we determine
birth was approx. 1817. The ship's passenger list suggests a birth date abt.
1815. Thus, we are left with a range from 1814 to 1817 for birth.

Barbara WELCH was born about 1825 in Of Wurttemberg, Germany. She died before 1880 in Fulton Co., Pennsylvania. She married Christopher SCHULTZ.

From Shirley Foreman Lee Bartley records and "Germans to America", Vol. 9,
page 268 and 1870 U.S. Census (PA). See husband's notes for details. If we
calculate from her stated age of 48 on the 1870 Census then her birth date is
approx. 1822. On the 1880 Census her age is recorded as 55 from which we
approximate her birth on 1825. On the passenger list we determine her birth
also about 1825.

They had the following children:

M i Jacob SCHULTZ was born about 1846 in Of Wurttemberg, Germany.

Info from Shirley Foreman/Schultz family records, Germans to America, Vol. 9,
page 268, and U.S. 1870 and 1880 Census (PA). See father's notes for details.

Dennis R. Rodgers believed "that Jacob stayed in Pennsylvania."
M ii Andrew SCHULTZ was born on 23 Aug 1850. He died on 23 Apr 1928.
F iii Margaret SCHULTZ was born on 30 Apr 1853. She died on 7 Aug 1936.
M iv George SCHULTZ was born about 1858 in Of Fulton Co., Pennsylvania.

Info from Shirley Foreman Bartley Family Records and the 1870 U.S. Census for
PA.

According to Dennis R. Rodgers when he and his mother searched the 1900 Census
they found a George W. Schults born 1857, living alone in Selden, Cook
Township, Decatur Co., Kansas. They noted the most prominent monument in the
town cemetery is for a George Schultz.
M v Leonard SCHULTZ was born about 1861 in Of Fulton Co., Pennsylvania.

Info from Shirley Foreman Bartley Family Records and the 1870 U.S. Census for
