A woman of low birth but astounding beauty, she became a favorite artist's model as a teenager. Paintings of her by famous artists hang in the galleries of Europe to this day. This led her to marriage to a man 35 years older than herself and she became known as "Emma, Lady Hamilton". She had lovers on the side, one of whom was Admiral Lord Nelson, one of the most famous men of history. They had a daughter, Horatia Nelson. A curious fact is that she always denied being the mother of Horatia, claiming to be merely the nanny. Perhaps this was due to the fact that her nominal husband was still alive when Horatia was born.

"A legendary beauty who conquered a nation and romantically enslaved its greatest hero.

As an illiterate teenager her stunning looks and figure and sparkling wit made her the toast of society and its royal leader, The Price Regent, whom she counted as one of her many lovers.

She became a sophisticated member of the aristocracy and became the closest friend of a Queen - and a powerful secret agent for the government.

Emma's life ended in tragedy. This remarkable woman, immortalised as the mistress of Admiral Lord Nelson - who inspired such devotion and passion in her life time - died alone penniless and unloved in Calais, in a hovel.

Born "Emily Lyon" in 1765 at Swan Cottage, Ness, she was the daughter of a Wirral blacksmith who died soon after her birth. By all accounts she was an exceptionally beautiful woman. In her teens she was sent to London to work as a nursery-maid but her looks quickly won her fame and she became a celebrated model for fashionable painters most notably, George Romney who painted numerous portraits of her. Emily "Hart" became mistress to Sir Harry Featherstonhough and later, Charles Greville, and was seduced by a naval officer whose child she bore. She also found employment as an Attendant at the "Temple of Health", a suspect medical establishment.
