Paul Nemenyi was a research scientist who worked on the development of the Atomic Bomb in the Manhattan Project at the University of Chicago. He worked on the mechanism which triggered the bomb. His work remains classified and little is known about the work he did or about the circumstances of his death.

It seems likely that he died in Washington State, although it has been reported that he died in Washington DC, because he was a professor in the State College of Washington and lived in Hanford, Washington. Hanford, Washington was a top secret facility where the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was developed.

Regina Wender-Fischer was a remarkable and, according to those who knew her, a remarkably intelligent, strong-willed woman who spoke at least six languages. This woman, who bore Bobby Fischer, was born in Switzerland in 1913, though herself an American citizen who grew up in St. Louis. A so-called "Red Diaper" baby of political radicals, she studied medicine at the First Moscow Medical Institute from 1933 to 1938, which were years of mass famine and terror in the Soviet Union. Her time in Moscow - like that of Emanuel Lasker in the mid-1930s - is wrapped in obscurity. She did not complete her degree, and a reasonable assumption is that the horrors of the Great Terror or Yezhovshchina from 1936 to 1938 played a role in truncating her education. In 1938 she married Gerhardt Fischer, a German biophysicist, and returned to the United States.

Unable to continue her medical education in the States because of high tuition fees and few postings for female physicians, she worked as a registered nurse among many other jobs. During World War II she labored as a typist, stenographer, a shipyard welder. Later, she taught elementary school. In 1968, at age 55, she finally earned a medical degree from Friedrich Schiller University in East Germany.

"Dolly" (Anna Maria) Wall became his wife in 1901. Sloan had met Dolly in a whorehouse, where she worked part-time to supplement a legitimate income. Dolly stood less than five feet tall and was already essentially an alcoholic at the time they met. Her drinking problem continued for the rest of her life, greatly complicating things for Sloan when she hit the bottle. One complication was that she would latch onto men for one-night stands. Despite this, Sloan remained married to her (though he had several affairs) until she dropped dead in front of him in 1943.

F i Jinky Ong FISCHER was born on 21 May 2001 in Baguio City, Philippines.

Tim Krabbe writes:

206. 9 March 2003: How Jinky Ong came into the world

In May 2000 Robert Nemenyi, a 57-year old Hungarian-American Jew, arrived in the Philippines, fresh from a Japanese jail, where he had spent some time after being caught at Narita Airport with some hemp he had tried to import from Germany.
He was looking for a woman who would cooperate in fulfilling his long-felt wish to perpetuate his genes. Eight years earlier, Nemenyi's genes had almost returned to their roots when he impregnated a young Hungarian woman (heavens no, not one of them), but on second thought, she had gotten rid of these genes.
This time however, a Filipino friend of Nemenyi's, whom we will call Gene for the occasion, set him up in a cottage in Baguio City, and presented him with a series of willing gene-carriers, from whom Nemenyi chose 22-year old Justine Ong. A contract was signed, Justine received the genes, and nine months later she gave birth to a girl, who now grows up in Davao City, under the name of Jinky Ong.
