Jean is reported in several printed works to have been a captain of amilitary company, and always carried a sword. One evening three menhabited as friars crossed his path. He saluted them with "Good eveningGentlemen", whereupon they immediately charged him with being aprotestant, otherwise he would have said, "Good evening, fathers". Hisreply was, "I know but one father in heaven". they drew sabres andattacked him. In self defense he killed one, wounded another, while thethird fled. For some reason he was never molested for this deed.

She faced the unknown fearlesslyand many of her descendents have arisen to call her name blessed. she wasburied in the old French Graveyard at Green Ridge, Staten Island.
