Sandra Kimura Sloan is now 21 months old

My daughter Sandra Kimura Sloan is now 21 months old. She has a favorite song and she dances to it. So, here is the song. You have all heard it before.

The song has many words to which it can be sung. Two versions that I learned when I was a child were "Turkey in the Straw" and "Old Zip Coon". Here are the words:

This is a very old song, dated to 1800. The first verse is now often played on ice cream trucks.

I had a little chicken and she wouldn't lay an egg
So I poured hot water up and down her leg.
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicked begged,
And the poor little chicken laid a hard-boiled egg!

I had a little chicken and she wouldn't lay an egg
So I poured hot water up and down her leg.
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicked begged,
And the poor little chicken laid a hard-boiled egg!

Turkey in the straw Turkey in the straw
Turkey in the hay Turkey in the hay
Bullfrog dance with his mother-in-law,
And they all sang a tune called Turkey In the Straw.

There once was a man with a double chin
who performed with skill on a violin.
And he played in time and he played in tune
but he wouldn't play anything but Old Zip Coon.

Old Zip Coon he played all day,
until the neighbors ran away.
And he played all night by the light of the moon
but he wouldn't play anything but Old Zip Coon.

This song thereafter goes on and on forever.
