Zaremba and Winer scored 4.5 - 0.5. Following them were Patrick Hummel in clear third with 4-1. Patrick had entered the tournament as the highest rated player but was upset by Pascal Openshaw in the second round.
There was a five way tie for fourth between Martinez, Vinay Bhat, David C. John, Joan Santana and Riley Yates-Doerr.
The high school champion of every state gets to send a representative to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions. This year for the first time there were three girls in the tournament.
The event was held at the Sands Regency Hotel in Reno at the same time as the US Open Chess Championship.
