Pieter Lefferts Haughwout was born on 18 May 1680. He died on 13 Mar 1774. He married Eyte (Ida) Suydam in Flatbush.
Pieter Lefferts, third child of Leffert Pieterse and Abigail (VanNuyse) (Hagewout), was born May 18, 1680. He inherited the Flatbush homestead (563 Flatbush avenue, Brooklyn), where his descendants still reside. The old mansion is of unknown age. It was partially burned bythe British during the revolution, and afterwards restored. As it stands, it is one of the finest specimens of Dutch Colonialarchitecture in the country; but its chief interest for the family lies in the fact that it marks the spot where their ancestor settled some two hundred and forty-five years ago. Pieter Lefferts was supervisor of the town of Flatbush from April, 1726, to April, 1727. In 1737 he was appointed county treasurer by the board of supervisors, at a salary of thirty shillings per annum, which office he held until 1772, thesalary before the expiration of his services having been increased by an act of the Colonial assembly. In 1751 he was an elder in the Dutch Reformed church of Flatbush; in 1752 he represented said church in the ninth Coetus, in 1754 in the twelfth Coetus, in 1768 was an elder, and in 1788, as an elder, was selected as Secundi to the General Synod. He married Eyte or Ida, daughter of Jacob Suydam, of Flatbush, who bore him the following children: Leffert; Jan, born March 16, 1719; Seytie, born January 8, 1721; Adriaentje; Antje, born May 12, 1728; Jacob or Jacobus, born May 9, 1730; Geertje, born July 11, 1731; and Abigail, born September 12, 1735. Pieter Lefferts died March 13, 1774, and his wife passed away September 25, 1777. His will is dated August 1, 1755, and probated July 25, 1774. Ida (Suydam) Lefferts was a descendant of Hendrick Rycke or Rycken, the common ancestor of the Suydam family of this vicinity, who emigrated in 1663. He was a blacksmith by trade.

Charles J. Hill 1 was born in 1796 in Connecticut. He died in 1883 in Rochester. He married Silvana. Charles was employed as in Miller.
Twenty-five men served as Mayor of Rochester duting the city's first 27years. The first seven were chosen by the Common Council, of which theywere elected members, and the rest, after a charter revision in 1840, wonthe title by popular vote. Early charter amendments somewhat reduced thecouncil's powers and enhanced those of the mayor, thus strengthening hisleadership. Several of the first elected mayors displayed considerablevigor in exercising their authority. Most of them served for one year orless, though three held office by appointment for part of a second yearto fill a vacancy, and one by appointment and one by election succeededhimself.
Charles J. Hill, the first Democrat to be elected mayor and the third tohold that office, was also a merchant and a backer of the RochesterExchange as well as a son of Connecticut. Born there in 1796, he had cometo the village in 1817 and became within a decade one of its leadingmillers. He served as trustee of the village in 1820, as inspector offlour in 1834, and as foreman of fire company No. 1 the next year.Nominated for mayor by the Democrats in 1841, he suffered a narrow defeatbut won on a second trial the next March. The affairs of his stone millon Water Street required his full attention the next year, but heaccepted the post of County Clerk in 1844 and became president of theWestern New York Pioneers Society. He lived for thirty years on FitzhughStreet in the first brick house erected in the city in 1821 but removedin the sixties to Prince Street where he died in 1883. He was Rochester'sninth mayor and second to be elected to the office.
